Incoterms\u00ae are an agreement between the seller and the buyer, defining who arranges for the payment and handling of goods.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

What Are Incoterms\u00ae?<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Incoterms\u00ae are terms of sale that define who arranges for the payment and handling of the goods during shipping, from the moment the goods leave the seller\u2019s door, up until their arrival at the buyer\u2019s final destination.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u201cIncoterms\u00ae\u201d is shorthand for \u201cInternational Commercial Terms\u201d as defined by the\u00a0International Chamber of Commerce\u00a0and they are revised from time to time.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

On September 2019, the ICC published the latest edition of the Incoterms\u00ae, commonly known as \u201cIncoterms\u00ae 2020,” which brought a few material changes to the Incoterms\u00ae. Beginning on 1 January 2020, the Incoterms\u00ae 2020 will be applied to all contracts of sale unless the parties specify that they would like to continue using\u00a0Incoterms\u00ae 2010. The switch to Incoterms\u00ae 2020 is NOT mandatory, so it\u2019s possible that some clients will continue to use Incoterms\u00ae 2010.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It is ultimately up to the buyer and the seller to agree on each party’s responsibility of cost and risk before the shipment begins.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
